Why Card Critter
How we price our cards
No mystery mark-ups. Every card page shows our price beside the overseas market price and what it costs to import the card yourself, so you can check us in ten seconds.
On every card page
The numbers we show you
They’re kept separate on purpose, never blended into one “market price”.
- 01AUD
Our price
What you pay, in Australian dollars, GST included. Set per copy and per condition.
- 02US / EU
Overseas market, converted
The current overseas market price for that printing, converted to AUD at the day’s exchange rate. It’s a guide, not an Australian price.
- 03Landed
If you import it yourself
The US price plus TCGplayer Direct’s US$15.99 shipping to Australia, 10% GST and a typical 3% card FX fee, for a single card.
The method
Where our price comes from
We start from the overseas market price for the exact printing, convert it to AUD at the day’s rate, and price at or just under it. We round down to a .95 price. We never round up past the market.
Condition then sets the price of each copy. Lightly played and moderately played copies are cheaper than near mint by a fixed percentage, so the discount is the same on every card.
Near Mint. Full price.
Lightly Played. About 85% of the NM price.
Moderately Played. About 70% of the NM price.
Heavily Played. About 50% of the NM price.
Damaged. About 35% of the NM price.
Why nothing is under $5 on its own
Posting and packing a single card properly (sleeve, toploader, envelope, label) costs more than a $1 card. So cards under $5 aren’t listed one at a time. They go into our deck kits, upgrade packs and bundles, which keeps cheap cards cheap.
What we won’t claim
We don’t call a converted US price “the Australian market price”, because there isn’t one public number for that. We don’t say “AI-priced”, and we don’t promise to be the cheapest. We show you the numbers and let you decide.
