Guide
How much is my Pokémon card worth?
Most Pokémon cards are worth cents, a few are worth hundreds. Here’s how to work out which one you’re holding in five minutes, and how to get a fair price in Australia if you sell.
Five steps
Value a card yourself
- 011
Find the exact printing
Read the set symbol and card number at the bottom (like 199/165). The same Pokémon can be worth $1 or $500 depending on the printing.
- 022
Check the rarity
Illustration Rares, Special Illustration Rares and Hyper Rares carry most of the value. Numbers above the set total (secret rares) are a good sign.
- 033
Be honest about condition
Whitening on the edges, scratches or bends drop the price a lot. Use our grading guide to judge it like a store would.
- 044
Look at sold prices
Asking prices are wishes. Look at what the same card in the same condition actually sold for recently.
- 055
Convert carefully
Most price sites are American and in USD. Convert to AUD, and remember a US price isn’t what an Australian buyer will pay.
Graded or raw?
A professionally graded card in a top grade can sell for far more than the same card ungraded. Grading costs money and takes time, so it usually only pays off for valuable cards in excellent condition. Compare graded prices only with graded sales of the same grade.
Why we don’t quote “the Australian price”
There’s no single public number for what a card sells for in Australia. On our card pages we show our price beside the overseas market price, converted to AUD, and what it would cost to import. You can see the method and check us against it.
Got cards worth selling?
We buy Pokémon singles for cash or store credit, and we’ll take higher-value cards on consignment. Send us a list and we’ll make an offer.
Questions
Card value questions
How do I know if my Pokémon card is rare?
Check the rarity symbol and number at the bottom of the card. Circles, diamonds and stars mark common to rare, and numbers above the set total (like 210/191) are secret rares.
Are old Pokémon cards worth money?
Some are, but age alone doesn’t make a card valuable. The printing, rarity, demand and condition matter far more.
Where can I sell Pokémon cards in Australia?
Card stores, local game stores and marketplaces. We buy singles for cash or store credit, and take higher-value cards on consignment.
