Zip, ringless or ring binder?
The one thing collectors agree on: keep your best cards out of ring binders.
| Binder | Good for | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Zip binder, side-loading | Taking cards to trades and locals. The zip keeps everything in. | Check it’s 9-pocket (3 × 3) for standard cards. |
| Ringless binder, side-loading | Display and long-term storage. No rings to press dents in. | Pages can’t be added or moved. |
| Ring binder (D-ring) | Bulk and trade stock you shuffle around often. | Rings can dent cards in the pages nearest them. |
| Toploader binder | Chase cards you want held rigid. | Fewer cards per page, and bulkier. |
Picking a binder
Count pockets, not pages
A 9-pocket (3 × 3) page holds 18 cards if you use both sides, so a “360-card” binder is 20 pages. Sleeved cards take more room than raw ones; most binders are rated for raw or penny-sleeved cards.
Side-loading pockets
Cards slide in from the side, so they can’t fall out when the binder stands up or gets bumped. Top-loading pockets are cheaper and easier to spill.

Questions
Good to know
Will a ring binder damage my cards?
It can. Cards in the pages nearest the rings get pressed and dented as the binder closes, which is why collectors say to go ringless. For cards you care about, use a zip or ringless binder with side-loading pockets.
Side-loading or top-loading pockets?
Side-loading. Cards can’t slide out when the binder is upright or gets bumped, and less dust gets in.
Penny sleeve and toploader, or a toploader binder?
For a single card you’re posting or putting away, it’s a penny sleeve first, then a toploader. For a set of good cards you want to look at, a toploader binder holds them rigid without a pile of toploaders in a box.
Can I add sleeves or toploaders to a card order?
Yes. Accessories ship with your cards in one parcel, and orders over $75 ship tracked for free.
